Edit your links

On the left in the module bar of the backend, you will find the purple icon Check links. Click on this icon to open the link validator.

Step by step

Overview of entry

  • By clicking on Check links in the module bar on the left you get access to the link validator.
  • Select the desired page in the page tree to examine a specific page.
  • You will then see the content mask for Report or Update link. The respective view is quickly recognizable visually. The field at the top also provides additional information (in this example, Report is selected).

Setting up a new data query for broken links

  • To update the view of broken links on your website, first make sure you are in the Check links view. Therefore select the option Check links in the dropdown menu at the top of your screen, if necessary.
  • Next, you can choose the desired filter options for the data query. In the area of Check these types of broken links you will find various link types (External Links, File Links, Internal Links) at your disposal by enabling/disabling the toggler.
  • You can choose the depth level for the data query starting from the respective page in the dropdown menu under Check this level. Checking all pages will be available by selecting the "infinite" level option next to the Home / Start page in the dropdown menu.
  • Click Check links below the filter settings.

Displaying and filtering broken links

  • To see the current data view, switch then again to the Report view by selecting Report from the dropdown menu at the top of the screen.
  • Similiar to the filter options for the data query you can specify the parameters you wish to display for broken links. Enable or disable the toggler in the section Show these types of broken links for external links, files, and internal links to show or hide them as needed.
  • Use the dropdown menu under Check this level to set the amount of levels that should be considered in the page tree, starting from the selected page. To display broken links for all pages, choose the “infinite” level option in the dropdown menu (and select the Home as referring page).
  • Click on Refresh display to display the list according to your filter settings.

Editing broken links

  • By clicking on the edit button (pencil icon) on the right side you can easily edit a broken link.
  • By clicking on this icon you will be taken directly to the element that contains the broken link. This could be an internal or external link or a link to a file (e.g., PDF).
  • You can then adjust or delete the broken link immediately in the element and save the settings.

Pieces of advice

toujou is based on TYPO3 and anyone familiar with TYPO3 knows that there are many different options to use to reach your desired results. We would like to point out important information and little tricks that can assist you when you’re creating and editing your website.

The link validator provides you with all broken links on your website. Internal links, external links and file links can be listed. Website editors can thus see at a glance where broken links are hidden - and edit them.

Helpful data when displaying broken links: You will get all relevant and helpful information for the links to be edited at a glance in the report view. You will not only see in which element the broken link is stored, but also on which page (path), which type of link (link), the link target including an error message and the date of the last check.

Level selection: With this option, you can decide the number of levels that are taken into account when querying data and displaying broken links. One single level represents one hierarchy level in the page tree. Giving you an example, for the screenshots of the step by step guide above, Home would be a level, the pages Form test, Sample page, Blog etc. would be a new level below.
